Summarize

Using an Author's Purpose Chart to record clues about why the author wrote Jackie Robinson.  Use the information to summarize the book.

Think and Compare

1.  Look at the quote from Branch Rickey on page 12.  Why do you think the author uses quoted in Jackie Robinson?  Find other examples of quotes the author included.

2.  Have you ever been insulted by a family member or friend?  Did you insult that person back?  Or did you refuse to answer?  Which way do you believe is better?

3. Jackie Robinson was the first African American player in major league baseball and the Baseball Hall of Fame.  What are the benefits and drawbacks of being the first person to do something?

Write a Baseball Poem

Create a poem that honors the great Jackie Robinson.  Use the letters in JACKIE ROBINSON name for the beginning word in each line of your poem.  For instance, a JACKIE poem would have six lines one line for each of the letters.  A word begginning with the leffer J would start off the first line.
