Summarize

Using a Problem and Solution Chart tell what problems Thomas Edison identified and how he solved them.  Then use the information from your chart to write a summary of the book.

Think and Compare

1. Skim page 6.  What problem did Edison have?  How did he choose to solve it?

2. Edison was convinced he could accomplish anything he set out to do.  Do you agree with his opinion?  Explain why or why not.

3. You know that phonograph was used to play music.  What other uses does this technology have today?

Solve a Problem

Thomas Edison often invented things to solve problems that he saw.  Think about a problem that you solved.  Write a paragraph telling about your problem.  Be sure you topic sentence identifies the problem.  The other sentences should tell how you solved your problem.
