Summarize

Using a Setting Flow Chart to list events in The Secret Code and Kathryn's reaction to each event.  Then use the information from your chart to help you write a summary of the story.

Think and Compare

1. Skim page 10.  Why did Kathryn decide to try to help her uncle instead of waiting for the ambulance to come?

2. Have you ever had a secret book or tried to make up a secret code or a language? Was it fun to have a secret code or language?

3. Why is it important to be prepared for emergencies?  Why would you recommend people do so they are ready for an unexpected event?

Create a Secret Code

Work with a partner from your group to make up your own secret code.  Using your secret code, write a note to your partner seeing if they can decode your notes.
